"Children deserve to live in a
world where they don't have to wonder where their next meal is coming from"
As of June 1, 2010, 53,674 "Imagine" specialty
license plates have been sold, raising $1,341,850.00 to fund programs to
end hunger in this state. The $25.00 specialty plate fee goes directly to
the Florida Association of Food Banks for programs directed at ending hunger in

Key
findings of the 'Hunger in America 2010 Florida State Report', published
02/02/10, show that the Feeding America system in Florida provides emergency
food for an estimated 3,050,000 different people annually: 38% are children
under 18 years of age; 50% have to choose between paying for food and paying for
utilities.
Food banks
are by far the single most important source of food for agencies with emergency
food providers, accounting for 77% of the food distributed by pantries, 52% of
the food distributed by kitchens, and 42% of the food distributed by shelters.
January 3, 2010: Central Floridian of the Year
FAFB Board Member, Dave Krepcho, was named
Central Floridian of the Year on January 3, 2010. "Hunger represents much more
than just absence of food on the plate," Krepcho says. "It robs the single
working mother of dignity to provide the basics for her children. It robs the
senior citizen of vitality and one of the simplest pleasures of the day in their
golden years. It robs the child of future potential if proper nutrition is not
provided....a child who cannot learn, cannot earn. Hunger is one of those
problems that can be ended. It's doable."
We need your help! At a time when
everyone is suffering - the people who need the most help suffer even more.
“The startling
fact that so many very young children in this country do not have adequate
nutrition necessary to grow and develop into healthy adults is heartbreaking. It
is all the more tragic when one considers that it is also entirely preventable,”
says Vicki Escarra, president and CEO of Feeding America. “We know that a child
who is hungry and cannot learn; they become a man or woman who cannot earn.”

The
Florida Association of Food Banks (FAFB) was established in January 1993 and
is a 501c(3) charitable organization, committed to making sure that families that need food
can get it in a dignified manner and in a way that serves as a real safety net
for those who fall on difficult times.
In 2009, the estimated wholesale value of the food
distributed by FAFB totaled $121,700,000.00. This money saves government
agencies and frontline charitable agencies up to 85% in food program costs. That
translates into millions of dollars of savings for thousands of charitable
programs and state agencies throughout Florida.
FAFB is affiliated with
Feeding America the nation's leading
hunger-relief organization, which has a
nationally recognized food distribution system and has 200 member food banks
throughout the country.
Food banks
provide food to other community based agencies that directly provide food to
men, women and children facing hunger.
FAFB members are
non-governmental organizations with consistently high ratings from
Charity Navigator.
"Let's all work together to
make a world without hunger as soon as humanly possible. We owe this battle to
our children." Yoko Ono Lennon.
